Basically, Emmert offered a combination of lies and wrote with a smugness that, really, is a hallmark of the NCAA. Yet, what made the letter a farce, was the way it was littered with falsehoods and misleading statements. In a recent letter obtained by Swimming World, NCAA President Mark Emmert made it clear that the organization has no plans to alter its current guidelines on transgender participation, and the potential for transgender women to have physiological advantages over the competition. Let’s just say the NCAA isn’t interested with the concerns of those forced to compete against transgender athletes. In no way were Thomas’ races emblematic of fairness. The opposing argument states that Thomas, benefiting from male puberty and years of testosterone production, possessed an unfair advantage over biological females. Supporters of Thomas noted that she followed the rules set forth by the NCAA and deserved the opportunity to compete as she identifies. Protesters on both sides of the issue made their arguments known – both inside and outside the McAuley Aquatics Center.
